The Mucker Revolt
Chris enjoys a good, imaginative read. He usually prefers Science Fiction and Fantasy before mainstream fiction. He concurs with a comment by Asimov that any story written can be written, in Science Fiction. Fantasy literature also has this ability. The story of the Mucker Revolt involves events in Garvamore. These are a group of semi-arctic islands of the world Inalsol that Frame has ruled for a thousand years. Due to the harsh environment and remoteness of Garvamore, the Frame leaves the people known as muckers to administer their own affairs. The land is divided into ‘Marks’ organised by the local ‘Lord’. The Lord appoints an Advocate to oversee the administration of the Mark. Divines monitor the records of the Advocate and are the elite of the human population of Inalsol, employed to carry out the edicts of the Frame. They have little respect for muckers. In most of Inalsol, muckers are slaves. One such slave is Sara, who escapes and is lucky enough to fall into the company of Cullin. Cullin is the fifth son of Lord Ossin of Mark Ossin. Among the muckers is a secretive group who refer to themselves as the ‘Aneksa’, the free people. Their intention is to maintain that freedom, with force if necessary. They build their strength and numbers by stealth and careful, but know that they remain hopelessly outmatched by the Frame and its machines, the aimu (artificial intelligent machine units). Inevitably, the Aneksa are discovered and this leads to conflict and battle, man against machine and the top-down authority of the Frame.
